First things first, why do we still need to produce SMART Ride, isn’t everything over? Don’t people just live fine by taking a pill? The truth is that although people aren’t dying as they did in the early 80’s and we aren’t having funerals daily, the disease continues to spread disproportionately in youth 13-23 and in minority communities. People are living longer which means the cost of long term care grows. So we need to continue this fight to educate, care and prevent new infections and you are on the front line just by offering to participate.
First question…do you have a bike?
Second question…have you ridden it lately ?
It’s easy to get in shape start slow, follow the rules of the road (bicycles are considered vehicles in Florida and subject to the same rules as cars in Florida).
We are thrilled you have joined us. You represent the backbone of SMART Ride and your role is critical to the safety of the riders and keeping them motivated and healthy as they embark on this journey.
In the coming weeks you will hear from your rider rep or crew chief to help you navigate the waters. In the meantime, you can always find information on the Ride, what to expect, and more, on our website at thesmartride.org. For now, here’s a link to some frequently asked questions which is updated often as the Ride grows closer.
If you are a returning participant you have a lot to offer from your past experience. One of the unique features of SMART Ride remains our 100% guarantee that every penny you, our participants raise will go to AIDS Service Organizations around Florida. We do NOT use any of your fundraising dollars to offset the cost of producing the event. The second unique feature of SMART Ride-you get a degree of control over ½ the funds you raise as it is distributed to the benefiting agencies. Pretty Cool!!!!
Together we can and will make a difference in the fight against HIV and AIDS. For any immediate questions you have please check out our FAQ page. If you don’t find the answer, just drop us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
