Don Cook - Crew # 2203
I have been vacationing in the Florida Keys since I moved to Florida in 2001. Several years ago I realized one of my friends was going to be in Key West while I was there, he was riding in on his bike from Ft. Lauderdale. I said "I will meet you at the end of the ride". The event was so powerful and the people so great that I have coordinated my annual vacation to the Keys to coincide with this great event for years now. I have made many friends from this great event. This year the ride has been moved due to impacts on the course by the Hurricanes of 2017, but it will go on! Moved to January, and I felt this year I needed to do more than donate to riders. I needed to help. So, I took the plunge, I will work the crew, with my goal to ride in this event someday. Please help me reach my goal for fund raising! Any amount helps.
On Friday January 19th, and Saturday January 20th I will join hundreds of other individuals who will ride their bicycles or crew from Miami to Key West 165-miles. Our journey will be one filled with hope, filled with pride, and filled with the dream of a future free of AIDS. This year will mark the 14th year of The SMART Ride journey, I have set an ambitious goal to help raise more than the required $1250 because I believe what we do makes a difference (and because 100% of the money you donate will go back to the community).
The event guarantees that every penny that I raise (with your help) will be given to AIDS Service Organizations and directed to prevention, education and direct services. Together we can make a real difference, we can change the world, and help free future generations of living with HIV, while helping those already affected, infected or at risk today stay healthy.
We can share the words of Margaret Mead "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has".
