Heather Ohms - Rider # 294
I can see a world free of HIV and AIDS, and I have committed to do my part to help make that a reality. On Friday November 20th and Saturday November 21st, I would have joined hundreds of other individuals riding their bicycles, or crew, 165 miles from Miami to Key West. Due to COVID-19, however, the SMART Ride has been reimagined this year. Instead, participants are encouraged to raise funds and commit to 165 of any activity of their choice. I have committed to riding 165 miles over three days around Greater Fort Lauderdale in November. This journey will be one filled with hope, filled with pride, and filled with the dream of a future free of HIV and AIDS. This year marks the 17th year of The SMART Ride journey and my goal is to raise $1250 toward the ride because I believe what we do makes a difference. 100% of the money you donate will go back to communities impacted by HIV and AIDS.
This year is especially crucial! Due to COVID-19, Broward House, the organization for which I work and one the beneficiaries of The SMART Ride, has been impacted tremendously. COVID-19 has prevented Broward House from holding our usual fundraisers that go directly toward our client services. You can help make up for these missed fundraising opportunities by donating to my SMART Ride goal. COVID-19 has challenged us to get creative with our fundraising for The SMART Ride this year. Therefore, in addition to the option of donating in one lump sum, you have the option of pledging to donate per mile that I train for this 165-mile ride through Strava (see below).
The SMART Ride event guarantees that every penny that I raise (with your help) will be given to AIDS Service Organizations and directed to prevention, education, and client services. Together, we can change the world by helping those already affected by, or at risk of, HIV and AIDS. Furthermore, we can help free
We can share the words of Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world, indeed; it is the only thing that ever has."
