Jonathan Scott - Rider # 388
On Friday November 20th, Saturday November 21st, and Sunday November 22nd, I will join hundreds of other individuals who will ride their bicycles, kayak, canoe, walk, or run for the 17th annual SMART Ride.Since I just got back on a bike during this pandemic, my goal is to Ride 165 miles during that week! (Let's not get crazy, LOL). But I have been averaging 20 miles a shot, so hopefully I'll get there!!!This year’s ride is being somewhat re-imagined due to the pandemic our country is currently facing. The state of the public health system, as well as the needs of our benefitting agencies and their clients, continues to motivate us to raise as much money as possible because we know that these funds are critical in protecting our community from the coronavirus and maintaining the HIV and AIDS health care. As we travel our version of 165 miles within our own counties and “safety bubbles”, our journeys will be filled with hope, filled with pride, and filled with the dream of a future free of AIDS.I have set an ambitious goal to help raise more than the usually required $1250 because I believe what we do makes a difference (and because 100% of the money you donate will go back to the community), and this year, more than ever, our community needs the support. The event guarantees that every penny that I raise (with your help) will be given to AIDS Service Organizations and directed to prevention, education and direct services. To date, the Ride has raised over $11.8 million, all of which has gone back into the community!!! Together we can make a real difference, we can change the world, and help free future generations of living with HIV, while helping those already affected, infected or at risk today stay healthy. We share the words of Margaret Mead "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has".
