Susan Mitchell - Rider # 99
The year 2020 has been one of great challenges for all of us. COVID-19 has robbed all of us of the ability to engage in the life activities
that have brought us greatest joys. The SMART Ride (a 165 mile two day bike ride from Miami to Key West) has served as one of my own personal great joys.
It is with immense pride that I have participated in a charitable bike ride that has distributed nearly 12 million dollars
to Southern Florida AIDS Service Organizations since inception. These organizations continue to promote the critical message about
HIV/AIDS education, prevention and awareness. Sadly, Southern Florida remains a hotbed for new infections in youths age 13-24, which I
find totally unacceptable and only further motivates me to act.
COVID can not and will not destroy my commitment to The SMART Ride and all of the good work has resulted from the same. The Ride has been reimagined this November, so that many riders will be logging 165 miles on their own that weekend or in small groups. Obviously, this provides a socially responsible alternative to the traditional large group ride.
All of the benefitting charitable organizations have been crippled financially as a result of the inability to conduct traditional fundraising activities, so my commitment and continued participation is more important than ever. I am personally appealing to your generosity again this year and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support over e years. Together we rise and retain hope for better days on the horizon.
