Vincent Wright - Rider # 172
Last year I completed my first Smart Ride as one of the 475 Cyclist. With a doubt, SR 16 was the most rewarding and fulfilling ride and accomplishment for myself and the other riders. With this amazing inspiration, I have decided to do it all again with the same single-minded purpose and even greater motivational spirit. So on Friday November 20th, and Saturday November 21st I will join hundreds of other individuals who will ride their bicycles or crew from Miami to Key West 165-miles. Our journey will be one filled with hope, pride, and the dream of a future free of AIDS. This year will mark the 17th year of The SMART Ride journey, and I have set an ambitious goal to help raise more than the required $1,250, and more than I raised last year ($2,850) because I believe what we do makes a difference (and because 100% of the money you donate will go back to the community). This second ride for as a cyclist was so meant to be as I am especially excited that my Rider Number is #172 (SR #17, my 2nd ride as a cyclist)!!!
This will be my 7th time participating in this ride. The first five times as part of the Motorcycle Escort Crew, and last year was my first time as one of the cyclist. It was such an amazing experience culminating in being able to participate in the Riderless Bike ceremony that honors the memory of those who have lost their battles with AIDS. This event which is so close to my with my older brother (Lt. Willie J. wright, II "Bill") contracting and succumbing to AIDS in 1985 and 1992 respectively, guarantees that every penny that I raise (with your help) will be given to AIDS Service Organizations and directed to prevention, education and direct services. Together we can make a real difference, we can change the world, and help free future generations of living with HIV, while helping those already affected, infected or at risk today stay healthy.
It is because of this effort that we can share the profound words of Margaret Mead which are "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has."
